Where are you from/located?

I am from High Point, North Carolina and currently reside there now!

How did you start making jewelry?

I started making jewelry one Saturday afternoon when I was searching for jewelry online that fit my style and was affordable. Everything that I found was either way out of my price range or I could never see myself wearing it, so I decided to give designing a try! As soon as I got started I fell completely in love with the entire process!

How did you learn how to make jewelry?

I have absolutely no design experience what so ever but I love being challenged and teaching myself new things. I found a few different patterns on line that I followed but the majority of it was just a lot of trial and error. I also learned that you can pretty much learn how to make anything with the help of YouTube and Google!

What is a normal day like for you?

I wake up every morning around 9am and immediately feed and take the dogs out. After that I'm making sure my blog post has been published and answer emails that may have come in over night. From then on it depends on what I have on my to-do list. Sometimes I'll have to dedicate a good chunk of my day to making pieces to send off to new customers and sometimes I'll have to work on the business side and update things like the expense sheet or pitch my brand to other websites. I usually take about an hour or two break during the day to eat and watch E! News and Sex & The City reruns (my guilty pleasures) but right after that I'm back on my laptop. I usually don't stop doing something work related until about 11 or 12 at night. Its so sad I know but I'm working on setting some solid work hours for myself.

Do you have a business mentor or someone who inspires you?

"I have a lot of mentors-in-my-head! I love reading about how some of my favorite entrepreneurs got started and what all they had to go through! I really look up to people like Sophia Amoruso of Nasty Gal and Myleik of CurlBox!"

If someone wanted to start their own jewelry line, what are some tips that would help them get started.

I would definitely suggest that you really think about what type of brand you wan't to build! Its so easy, especially if you sell online, to wan't to do things that you see larger brands doing. Although they are great for inspiration, you definitely NEED to build a brand that is true to you! I would also suggest starting off small. Don't go out and purchase a bunch of materials until you test the waters and get a good feel of what your target customers like.

If you could talk to your younger self, what would you tell her ?

I'd tell her to JUST DO IT!!! When I was younger I allowed fear to stop me from doing so many things and from reaching my full potential.

What do you like to do when you are making jewelry ? i.e listening to music.

I LOVE listening to music while I'm creating! And it has to be up beat like electronic dance music! My current favorite album to work to is Calvin Harris' "18 Months".

What is your favorite thing about owning your own business?

"My favorite thing has to be that I get to wake up every morning and do something that I love! I seriously thank God daily for the opportunity!"

What is your least favorite thing about owning your own business?

Definitely the business side of business! Numbers annoy me so calculating expenses and keeping track of taxes and things like that is what I wish I could do without.

What do you do when you are not making jewelry?

I blog or either catch up on my shows. Its SO boring but a large chunk of my life revolves around my business.

What is the one thing, pertaining to your business, that you can’t do without?

I would have to say my iPad! When I first got it I said it was going to be used strictly for reading books and playing games but I do neither on it. It acts as a back up for when I don't feel like lugging my laptop around.
